We've just released the latest edition of our authoring tools report: 128 pages of good information and advice. The report includes 35 reviews of authoring applications by expert users. Each review provides an in-depth description and evaluation of the product's major functions. A one-page summary lists tools from best to worst and their costs.

The report rates Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, Elicitus, Flash, Flashform, Outstart, Raptivity, Toolbook, and Outstart and less well known applications such as Mediasite, Gameshow Pro, and myUDUTU. The introduction by Patti Shank, a well-known expert on authoring tools, lays out how to choose the best tool.

Vendors did not pay fees to have their products evaluated or subsidize the reviews in any way. The evaluations are based on full versions of the applications, not demos or marketing presentations.

Priced at less than $50, TRAINERS GUIDE TO AUTHORING TOOLS is much more affordable than other reports on content creation software. None of the other reports provides hands-on assessment by expert users.
